Challenges in Building International Labour Solidarity When: Sunday, April 21st — 1:00 -3:00 pm Where: Centre for Social Innovation, ING Room, 720 Bathurst St. (Just South of Bathurst Station, West Side of the street) Join us for an afternoon with Kim Scipes, Associate Professor of Sociology at Purdue University North Central, long time labor activist, Chair of the Chicago Chapter of the National Writers Union, UAW #1981 and author of AFL-CIO’s Secret War against Developing Country Workers: Solidarity or Sabotage? Kim’s recent book explores the role of the AFL-CIO in undermining workers struggles in the Philippines, Chile, Venezuela and elsewhere. He explores the implications of these actions and the way rank and file workers have tried to challenge this agenda. Kim’s talk will be followed by Marion Pollack, long-time union activist and retired member of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers. Marion will turn the discussion to the Canadian context and the relevance of this analysis for Canadian labour movement and particularly for building genuine international labour solidarity today.
