CALLS TO ACTION
Cancel F35 contract
Amidst Trump’s economic siege and annexation threats, it is unacceptable Canada is paying a US military giant $19 billion for 88 F-35s. Lockheed Martin’s fighter jet was chosen in part so the Canadian air force can better assist their US counterparts in offensive global operations. The US controls the F-35 source code and upgrades, giving Washington an effective “kill switch” on Canada’s fighter jets.
Please take a minute to ask new Liberal leader Mark Carney to halt plans to buy F-35s.

Book launch: Against the Crisis
When: April 11th, 7pm
Where: CSI, 720 Bathurst St.
The Leo Panitch School for Socialist Education is honoured to welcome Ståle Holgersen for the Toronto launch of his new book
Against the Crisis: Economy and Ecology in a Burning World!
If crisis defines our era, we need a coherent socialist policy in response. Today’s economic and ecological crises are not exceptions to an otherwise functioning system but integral to its operation. It is naive to see these upheavals as opportunities for reform or revolution. They are the bedrock of the status quo. Fortunately, the vicious circle sustaining capitalism is not founded on an iron law. Our historical mission in the face of the climate crisis is to create a historical exception to the rule. It is time for ecosocialism against crisis.

[Ottawa] Arms Embargo Now
When: April 12th, 2pm
Where: Parliament Hill, Ottawa
For over 16 months, Gaza has endured a relentless genocide carried out by the Zionist occupation, fully backed by the U.S. and its allies, including Canada. Even after a so-called ceasefire was announced, the Zionist occupation continued its assault, imposing a total blockade on March 1st, cutting off all food and aid, and launching a new wave of bombings and ground invasions in the following days.
On April 12th, we are mobilizing on Parliament Hill to confront Canada’s role in this genocide. We refuse to let politicians get away with hollow statements while they continue arming and funding Israel’s massacres.

Statements on Abduction of Mahmoud Khalil

By Faculty for Palestine
Faculty for Palestine condemns in the strongest terms the abduction and attempted deportation of leading Columbia student organizer, Mahmoud Khalil. We stand in solidarity with all other students, staff, faculty, and activists facing intimidation, threats, legal consequences, job loss, and deportation for taking principled stands against the genocide of Palestinians and for advocating for Palestinian liberation. This includes Badar Khan Suri, Ranjani Srinivasan, Rumeysa Ozturk, and countless others. We think of Cornell student Momodou Taal, currently threatened with deportation for his organizing: “This fight is bigger than me, and we can’t afford to lose it.”

Trade War and Attacks on National Sovereignty

By Geoff Bickerton
The United States has launched a full-scale attack on our economy and our very existence as a sovereign country. Canadians have responded by boycotting US products, buying Canadian, and cancelling travel plans to the US. But as unionists, how can we respond collectively through our unions? What should be the role of the labour movement?

The Man Who Would Be King

By Sam Gindin
Headwinds have emerged in Donald Trump’s rush to derail and transform the state and place the US Empire on a radically new – but no less oppressive – footing. This time, however, Trump came with a more primed agenda, while the social forces to counter his trajectory remain a remote wish. This facilitates Trump’s stubborn soldiering on.
