CALLS TO ACTION
#FundTVOLikeItMatters
CMG members at TVO are asking their employer and the government for fair wages, and are saying “NO” to normalizing precarious work at your provincial public broadcaster.
We believe TVO is under threat due to a lack of funding and the gig-ification of the workforce.
To provide Ontarians with fair, factual and high-quality journalism and education, we need the province to fund TVO like it matters. Because it does! Please write to your MPP and tell them you believe the same.

#NoWar2023 Conference
When: September 22-24th
A global 3-day conference on nonviolent resistance in the face of invasions, occupations, and military violence.
You say you’re against war, but what’s the alternative? Managing conflict nonviolently is one of the three core strategies of World BEYOND War’s alternative global security system. But when the rule of law and diplomacy are failing and violence is underway, both seasoned activists and newcomers alike often question whether unarmed resistance can be effective against military invasion, occupation, and war. Throughout three days of virtual panels, training, and discussion sessions, #NoWar2023 will make the case for the efficacy of nonviolent resistance as a tool for conflict resolution, highlighting case studies from around the world of unarmed civilian based defense against invasions, occupations, and dictatorships.
Hosted virtually on the Zoom Events platform, World BEYOND War’s #NoWar2023 annual global conference brings together peace and anti-war individuals and organizations from around the world to share, reflect, strategize, and organize towards the abolition of war.

Stop Healthcare Privatization
When: September 25th, 12noon
Where: Queen’s Park
Make a major show of strength to set the tone for the reopening of the Ontario Legislature. We are not going away. We are unalterably opposed to the privatization of our public hospitals. We paid for them. We built them. They do not belong to the Ford government to run them into crisis, gut their core services and privatize them.
We demand that the Ford government:
– Stop the privatization of our public hospitals
– Stop creating a crisis in our public hospitals by underfunding them, cutting and closing services, and trying to roll back wages of nurses, health professionals & support staff,
– Expand the use of existing ORs in our public hospitals, and
– Expand capacity in our public hospitals & restore closed services.

War Breaks Out in Northern Ethiopia
By Tikur Netsanet
“The worst-case scenario is unfolding in Ethiopia,” Gabriel Bizuneh tells me, as he organizes in the Ethiopian community in Washington, D.C. Once again, the federal government is at war with another region in a federal system where regions are demarcated on ethnic lines. Moreover, each region in Ethiopia has its own police force, special units, and local militia. This time, the federal government is at war with the Fano and Amhara special forces, which fought against the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and have been protecting civilians from the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA)/ ONEG Shene attacks.

Is Intellectual Property Turning into a Knowledge Monopoly?
By Prabir Purkayastha
The twentieth century saw the emergence of publicly funded universities and technical institutions, while technology development was concentrated in the R&D laboratories of large corporations. The age of the lone inventor – Edison, Siemens, Westinghouse, Graham Bell – had ended with the nineteenth century. The twentieth century was more about industry-based R&D laboratories, where corporations gathered together leading scientists and technologists to create the technologies of the future. In this phase, capital was still expanding production. Even though finance capital was already dominant over productive capital, the major capitalist countries still had a strong manufacturing base.

Building the Left In and Outside of Parliament
Marc Botenga interviewed by Loren Balhorn
Marc Botenga (PTB, Belgium), Member of the European Parliament (MEP), speaks about workers’ alliances across Europe and why we need more of them, the EU bureaucracy and political culture he witnessed, some fights at the European Parliament with the Commission, PTB’s rise in Belgium and party building. An interview conducted by Loren Balhorn for the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation. The Workers’ Party of Belgium (PTB/PDVA) is one of the European Left’s lesser-known success stories. Although its leaders may not be as famous as Pablo Iglesias, Alexis Tsipras, or Jeremy Corbyn, the PTB’s consistent rise to a mass party with national influence in only 15 years is arguably one of the most remarkable trajectories of any left-wing party on the continent.

Protect The Right To Strike
This video, by Sid Ryan, is about union rights and in particular the right to strike. Unions have fought to have this right embedded in the Canadian Charter of Rights. A major teacher’s union decided to give up this right for the current round of negotiations, thereby undermining the bargaining power of three other teacher unions. Every union in Ontario – especially public sector unions – should be concerned about OSSTF’s decision to undermine the right to strike. The union is trivialising a right that generations of workers have fought for and some gave their lives for this right.
