Learn about the power of collective action!

The Unite the Swifties contest invites you to take part in a series of challenges, starting online and then moving offline, to speak now on RBC’s funding of fossil fuel projects and companies violating Indigenous rights. Acting together is the only way to show RBC that we are more powerful than their dirty money. That’s why we’ve put together this five-part training program for you to learn how social movements build power through art, storytelling, leadership, solidarity, and collective action!

In this training program you’ll hear from Indigenous Land Defenders about what is happening in their community and what you can do to be in solidarity with them. You’ll also learn about the power of social movements, the role that artists like Taylor Swift can play, and the role that you can play, to challenge RBC – Canada’s largest corporation and top financier of climate chaos!

We must collectively and powerfully call for an end to this nightmare and an end to all Canadian complicity in it.

Fighting to Win

Drawing on the examples provided by a wide range of struggles, the course will look at how working class and popular struggles have won important victories. It will also consider, however, the strategies that have been used by those in power to contain and demobilize social resistance. Finally, it will explore the approaches that are needed today to fight back effectively in these volatile and uncertain times.

Revoking Charitable Status of Jewish National Fund is Long Overdue

Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) applauds the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) for indicating that it will revoke the charitable status of the Jewish National Fund of Canada (JNF Canada), reportedly “over support for military infrastructure in Israel.” For decades, Independent Jewish Voices Canada and other activists have brought attention to JNF Canada’s abuse of charitable funds to support projects linked to the Israeli military and settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories (OPT). This includes the notorious “Canada Park” which sits in the occupied West Bank on the ruins of Palestinian villages.

My Departure From Peru

My name is Jan Lust. I was born in the Netherlands. I arrived in Peru in March 1999. I have lived here for more than 25 years. During this time, I have worked as a professor-researcher at different universities such as the Pacific University, the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP), and the Ricardo Palma University (URP). My stay in Peru was motivated by social and political reasons. My main objective was to contribute to processes that aimed to produce profound political, economic, and social changes in society.

Peasants and Politics in Neoliberal India

The persistence of peasantry in the Global South and imperialism’s necessity to integrate it into its accumulation network has given birth to a new agrarian question. This question centers around policies and efforts employed by imperialist countries to pressurize countries of the Global South, through international institutions (WTO, World Bank, and IMF), to integrate their peasantry into globalized capital. A peculiar feature of recent developments in this process is the exceptional support extended by the big corporate capital to right-wing forces.

How Our Struggles Are Contained by Those In Power

After decades of involvement in trade union and anti-poverty struggles, I find myself thinking more and more about the lessons I have learned along the way and how some of these might be of use to other union and community activists. I’m presently developing an educational course on how movements challenge power structures and how those structures develop and apply strategies to contain resistance. These are vital considerations if we are to organize effectively in these volatile and uncertain times.
