Over the next 12 months we will be targeting bad bosses and their enablers in government to demand respect and dignity for migrant workers across Ontario. The December 13th tour will visit employer enablers such as the WSIB, Ministry of Labour and a whole cast of characters who are denying migrants fairness at work.
While charities highlight the season as a time of giving for the less fortunate, we are organizing with workers to take back what has been denied by governments, and to take back wages owed by greedy bosses.

Should a Public Telecom Be An Election Issue?
When: December 15th, 7pm
In the midst of financial hardship, overpriced and underserviced digital accessibility is being foisted on those who need them most but can afford them least: Indigenous communities, rural residents, students, social service recipients (ODSP/OW) and the working poor.
Join us as Cory Doctorow, a trailblazer in the fight to expose the digital oligopolies’ predatory machinations and to democratize the internet, will make a social, technological, and political case for New Democrats to embrace the demand for a public telecom in the upcoming elections next year. Cory, a journalist, activist and the author of 30 books, describes what the corporate telecoms have done to the digital realm with the most popular new word introduced in 2023: “enshittification.”

Israel’s Sick Sense of Humour
By Judy Haiven
With all the talk about a ceasefire in Lebanon, the following news about AI (artificial intelligence) may have got lost. The Israelis and their supporters like to laugh about the thousands left severely injured or blinded and the dozens killed in Lebanon in late September when Israel detonated tens of thousands of pagers at one time. Quite a joke! Or when Israel programmed implosions of thousands of walkie-talkies which killed 20 and seriously injured another 450 in Lebanon. Israel suspected the pagers and walkie-talkies belonged to Hezbollah ‘militants’. So were the killings and maimings justified? Really?

IJV Condemns Police Repression Against Palestine Solidarity Movement
By Independent Jewish Voices
Across Canada and internationally, we are seeing a marked rise in violent repression of the Palestine solidarity movement. Independent Jewish Voices condemns the mounting criminalization of Palestine solidarity activism, and the use of excessive force by police to intimidate and harass activists. On October 15, 2024, the Canadian government listed the group Samidoun, also known as the Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network, as a “terrorist entity” under the Criminal Code, in response to months of pressure by pro-Israel lobby groups, a few Liberal MPs and the opposition Conservatives.

The Conflicted Transformation of CAW-Unifor: A Review of Shifting Gears
By Herman Rosenfeld
Recent commentaries on the political trajectory of the major private sector union in Canada, CAW-Unifor, have often had a rather simplistic and problematic perspective. That the CAW-Unifor (the latter being the new name and re-foundation of the union in 2013) drifted from a left, struggle-oriented approach, summarized in the slogan “Fighting back makes a difference,” toward a more collaborative centrist and Gomperist political approach, as the union distanced itself and ultimately moved away from the New Democratic Party (NDP).
