CALLS TO ACTION
Stand up for Dr. Hassan Diab
The Wrongful Verdict: Few Canadians have read France’s 2023 verdict, which wrongfully convicted Hassan Diab for the 1980 bombing of a Paris synagogue on rue Copernic. But those who, in good faith, have read that 32-page document can see clearly that the Paris Assize Court decision not only relied on a welter of absurd claims, undocumented statements, and unsolved queries, it rested on a sham trial, shockingly conducted with no public record or actual proof – and, this, contrary to Canadian law.
Call to Action: the Hassan Diab Support Committee is exhorting you, Dr. Diab’s followers and supporters, to write to Carleton University administrators and Board of Governors. Demand that they resist and defy this wave of hate and violent threats.

Declaration on Peace for Climate Justice
We are in a climate emergency exacerbated by global conflict. This past summer, out-of-control forest fires raged across Canada and caused mass displacement and destruction. Canadian communities are facing more intense fires, heat waves, flooding and droughts, but are not prepared for these climate-induced disasters. The Canadian government has failed to reduce carbon emissions and adapt to climate change. The federal Commissioner for the Environment and Sustainable Development in the Office of the Auditor General reported that Canada is not on track to cut carbon emissions by at least 40% below 2005 levels and meet its 2030 target.
Peace is on the thematic program at the climate summit for the first time. Peace for climate justice means ending the wars against each other and the earth. It means cancelling fossil fuel powered weapons procurement, cutting military spending and converting from a war economy to a green care economy. Peace centres Indigenous land and water defenders and ends settler colonialism and extractive capitalism. A climate of peace is achieved through disarmament, demilitarization, environmental peacebuilding, cooperation, mutual aid and global solidarity. Peace for climate justice is the transformative change needed to secure a livable future.

OHC Annual Assembly
When: January 25 and 26
Where: Central YMCA, 20 Grosvenor St
Come and hear where the fightback is seeing some success. Working with the families of long-term care residents, the unions and health professionals, academics and advocates, we have forced the reinstatement of inspections and the beginning of fines for substandard care in long-term care. Ontario has the deepest opposition to health care privatization in the country, in part because of our work. Polls are indicating that approximately 80% of Ontarians think the Ford government is doing a poor or very poor job on health care. The majority of Ontarians oppose privatization and, no matter their political stripe, people are deeply opposed to the closure of their local hospital services.

Boycott Indigo Books
Indigo, through its CEO Heather Reisman, is directly funding violence and destruction to Palestine. Heseg Foundation is funded by Gerry Schwartz and Heather Reisman. Canadians demand that Heseg Foundation’s charitable status be revoked. Heather Reisman profits off of Indigo’s holiday sales. Those profits help recruit foreign mercenaries into the IOF. The IOF bombs kids. Shoppers need to know that purchasing gifts at Indigo supports Israel’s genocidal project. Rally was recorded in front of the Indigo store, Bay and Bloor streets, Toronto, 21 December 2024.

Donald Trump and Education for Acquiescence
By William Paul
In a Donald Trump administration replete with billionaire donors, hucksters, hardline right-wing contributors to the Project 2025 Mandate for Leadership, warriors against the woke “Deep State,” and nominees facing sexual abuse allegations, the president-elect’s Education Secretary pick, Linda McMahon, fits in nicely.

When is a Survey not a Survey?
By Judy Haiven
It’s only been a week since the survey by the so-called Jewish Medical Association of Ontario (JMAO) was released. But when is a survey not a survey? When it is not written down, and every time you turn around, more factoids are spewed and regurgitated by the media – but there is no survey data to back them up. A week ago the JMAO said their new “survey” found that at least 31% of the 1000 Jewish doctors surveyed across Canada insist they are thinking of leaving their medical practices and their homes in Canada to go somewhere else – because of galloping antisemitism.
